SPOKES is an active campaign group set up to encourage cycling and publicise its benefits. The group is based in the East Kent area
but has an interest in better conditions for cyclists everywhere.
They publish a free quarterly newsletter in which they air their views and the views of others on cycling issues and ensure its widest possible distribution. You can read the latest edition here as well as recent back issues.
Spokes also organises a full programme of rides and cycling events in and around Kent to be enjoyed by ordinary people.
Next Spokes-led ride:
Sunday 3rd May 2009. 10:30am
Simultaneous start from Canterbury West and Whitstable (South side) stations. A cycle ride along the Crab & Winkle Way between Canterbury and Whitstable to celebrate the anniversary of the historic railway that used to run along the route.
Next stall event:
Sunday 3rd May 2009. Winding Pond, Crab & Winkle Way
The UK's leading sustainable transport charity, working on practical, innovative ways of dealing with the transport challenges that affect us all.
Re~Cycle's mission is to collect secondhand bicycles and ship them to Africa. Their partners distribute bikes and teach riders the skills to repair and maintain them. The bikes also help health/AIDS workers reach remote villages and even provide an ambulance service in remote Namibia.
