Music for Change is committed to developing cultural understanding and respect for cultural diversity through music and the arts in educational, community settings and through events and projects.
We work with some of the finest artists from around the world in schools and community settings, produce festivals and events and deliver targeted issue based projects.
In 2007 we celebrated our tenth year. Since 1997 we have grown from a small localised project to one of the foremost organisations promoting cultural diversity in the UK.
Music for Change produces over 2000 workshops and events a year and we work with over 150 artists.
Felicity Harvest, Executive Director of Arts Council England South East says: "Music for Change has developed into one of the country's most successful and well respected education and community arts organisations. The passion, vision and conviction which the founder, staff and board have brought to the organisation's development over the past 10 years has been at the heart of its success and we look forward to continuing our work together to bring the best quality art to the widest audience."
Music for Change invites you to join them on a lively singing journey through the County on Friday 18th September at Deal Library between 11am and 12:30pm.
The event will mark the launch of ‘A Singing History of Kent’, a brand new songbook designed to support singing for all ages.
School pupils from Deal, Dover and Canterbury will join the Deal Silver Song club to sing their way through our local history. This will be followed by a Kentish cream tea.
A Singing History of Kent brings to life the history and traditions of the County and its people. The book is informative and easy to use, a great resource for schools, community groups and libraries.
Songs will be presented by four leading Kent folk artists from the Kent Song Collective. The songs included in the book are taken form their own collections. All four singer songwriters are specialists in traditional and old songs of Kent.
Songbooks will be distributed on the day.
The launch of the song book will mark the start of a series of fantastic workshops and performances that Music for Change is offering to schools and communities from September. These can be booked as one off 90 minute sessions or longer themed concerts and song writing sessions. From hops to market trader cries, from fishing boats in Deal to the White Cliffs of Dover… A Singing History of Kent has something for everybody!
