Well, the Odeon cinema in Canterbury is a bit of a joke. It reminds us of the old ABC cinema in Maidstone, before it was turned into a bingo hall.
Basically, it has just two screens. In a major city with a large population and tens of thousands of students. Just from the Odeon's point of view, they could make a killing. From the point of view of a movie lover, it sucks, and only the biggest films are shown, and even then, not for that long. There are hardly any special screenings or Director's Chair showings, and with a basic choice of two films, you'd be better off going to Ashford or Maidstone. But why should we have to travel all that way? Canterbury is crying out for a multi screen cinema, but in the meantime, please find the (very short) list of alternatives below.
On the off chance that the Odeon might be screening something half decent, you can find them here.

Your best bet for an alternative selection of films is the Gulbenkian Cinema up at the UKC, which is open to both students and the general public.
The films being shown are a mixture of box office hits (a few months after they are released) alongside indie hits, foreign films, and the lastest cult / obscure films that the Odeon would never show. Some films are accompanied by live music, and by joining their Cineclub, members are rewarded with cheaper ticket prices for a year and the occasional exclusive free screenings (recent freebies have included Michael Clayton and The Oxford Murders).
We do love this cinema but found ourselves confused about their summer listings last year - fine, have endless showings of Mamma Mia and Indiana Jones & The Crystal Bus Pass if you must, but no Iron Man, or Incredible Hulk?!?! COME ON. It's the summer holidays - if you're going to show more mainstream blockbusters that's okay, but not all of us want to see Colin Firth singing...

Hidden away on Castle Street is one of our favourite places in Canterbury - and they do free screenings of rare and obscure films every week ! Past genres have included Japanese sci-fi b-movies and a whole week of early Hitchcock.
Plus the food is better for you than overpriced buckets of popcorn and coke at the Odeon...
The Screen On The Green recently put on showings of Some Like It Hot, Romeo & Juliet and Spinal Tap at St. Augustine's Abbey - keep an eye out for their 2010 season...
